While Boykin Spaniels can be relatively easy to train, they can still be challenging, as any breed can, for the novice trainer.  While hard headed at times, Boykin Spaniels generally do not take to a drill sergeant approach.  These heavy handed, high force methods just do not work well on the Boykin Spaniel and this is the sole reason why trainers that are unfamiliar with the Boykin Spaniels will end up breaking a Boykin Spaniels spirit to an unrepairable stage. When Purchasing a new Boykin Spaniel puppy, what you do or do not do with your new Boykin Spaniel Puppy between the ages of 6 weeks to 6 months will totally shape how the Boykin Spaniel turns out as an adult. Here at Yocona River Boykin Spaniels, we train strictly with a low force natural methodology that is designed for upland and waterfowl retrievers and is ideal for the Boykin Spaniel.  We train in realistic hunting environment, from flooded timber, crp fields, and utilize technical ponds that simulates the land-water-land scenario seen so often in the flooded rice fields of Arkansas.
